Create a Google Plus Page in 5 Steps - 2014 Edition

Google Plus pages are a great compliment to your current website. Having a Google Plus page directly linked to your website will boost your search engine rankings and provide another way to share your great content online.

Creating a new Google Plus page for your business or community is easy to do. Here is a 5 step plan to get started.

To create a page you must first be longed in to the Google Plus profile that you would like to use to own or administrate your Google Plus page. You can assign more managers later but only one profile can own the page.

Go to the "Pages" Section of Your Profile

From your "Home" screen hover your cursor over the "Home" button directly below the Google Plus logo. This will open the Google Plus navigation panel.

Select "Pages" from the navigation. You can also visit Google's Create a Page link as long as you are logged in.

Initially, unless you have done this before, you will see no pages, only a "Create a Page" button.

Create Your Page

Click the create a page button to start the next step in creating your page. You will first be asked to select a category for your page. Google provides 5 options with some description below each option.

If you choose Product or Brand, Company, Institution or Organization or Arts, Entertainment or Sport, Google Plus will ask you next to identify your specific category. With these categories the next steps are shorter. You will enter your Page name and a link to your website (if applicable).

Creating a Local Business or Place page is a little more involved.

Local business is absolutely the one to choose if you have a business that provides goods or services at a specific location. Google users can provide valuable reviews for this type of Google page and it also integrates very nicely with Google Maps.

Search for your Business

The first time you create a local page Google Plus will ask you to agree to their terms of service.

The next step is to enter the name and address of your business and search for it. Often, Google already knows some details about your business.

If Google has details about your business, or one very close to your business, Google will display it.

Google Business Search

If your business is listed it could be due to a Google user "checking in "at the location. Or, Google indexed the location from your website.

Click the listing that most closely applies to your business. If it is not owned (and hopefully it is not) then you can verify the listing by phone or email. Google will call or mail you a code to be entered to verify the business. If you choose postcard you will need to save and finish this process later, phone verification is instant.

You next add or correct any details to this Google Plus Local listing.

If your business is not listed click "No, these are not my businesses" to create your business page.

Enter Your Business Details

Next, enter all of the details about your business. Your search engine rankings will receive the greatest benefit if you complete all of these fields.

Once you have entered all of the data click "Submit" to create the page.

Enhance Your New Google Plus Page

Now that the page is created Google will provide tips to help you enhance your page. You will add a profile photo and a cover photo. You can enter a tagline and also a detailed summary description of the page.

Once your page has existed for a few days and Google confirms the link to your website (this may require you to add a line of code to the website) you may also be provided with a custom Google Plus URL name.

With your page created you can now share your great posts with the Google Plus community.

Thanks for following along and, as always, Be Mohr Social!
