Twitter Profile Update For 2014 Available For All Users - 3 Steps To Get Ready

2014 Twitter Profile

Twitter has officially rolled out the ability for all users to update their Twitter profile to the new layout. The profile looks a lot more like the enhanced profiles for Facebook and Google+. If you have not already made the switch Twitter will ask you if you want to switch when you login.

There is a very easy to follow guide provided by Twitter but I am also going to walk you through it below.

3 Main Enhancements You Can Take Advantage of Today

The 3 main changes to your Twitter profile will be a new larger header photo, a larger profile photo and the ability to pin a specific tweet to the top of your profile.

The larger header photo allows you to take advantage of some of your best promotional product or brand photos. For a lot of brands this will need to take the place of whatever promotion you have used with your background image in the past.

A new, larger, profile photo will let your logo gain more visibility. You can easily distinguish your page from any competitor page by making your logo or head-shot photo more visible with this update.

Finally, pinning your most valuable tweets to the top of your profile page will help users see the content you want them to see the first time they visit your profile.

Changing Your Twitter Header and Profile Photos

To change your photos you click on "Edit Profile" below your header image. Twitter will have sized your previous header photo for you but it may not be in proper proportion.

Changing Your Header and Profile Photos in Twitter

First, to change your header photo, click anywhere in the header photo area. Browse your hard drive and select your new photo. Twitter recommends your photo is sized to 1500 X 500 pixels. When you have selected your new photo you will be able to drag it to your desired position and also to zoom in or out on the photo. When you are happy with the photo select "Save Changes".

Next you will want to optimize your profile photo. Twitter recommends a 400 X 400 pixel photo for your profile. As with the header photo Twitter will have converted your previous photo. Be sure to use a new profile photo that is sized to Twitter recommendations to get the most out of your new Twitter profile.

Pinning Tweets To Your Profile

A feature that is very popular on Facebook is a pinned post. Twitter now has that same option.

Pinning a Post on Twitter
To pin a post to the top of your profile hover over the ellipsis at the bottom of your tweet. The options to embed the tweet (in your website) or pin to your profile will appear. Select "Pin to your profile page" to pin this tweet.

To get the most value out of pinning tweets you can pin tweets to any contests you may be running, your current sales promotion or your best evergreen content you want to promote.

Twitter Enhancements For Business

The changes to Twitter profiles are great for brands and marketers. Be sure to take advantage of them today.

I'd love to see what you have done with your profile, please share your link in a comment.
