Creating a Facebook Profile in 5 Steps - 2014 Edition

So, you are not one of the almost 60% of adults that already have a Facebook account? Well, that is fine because this post is still valid for 40% of the adult population.

Why Facebook?

Actually, I am not going to try to sell you on why you want to have a Facebook account, you found this page for a reason. Let's just jump into it.

Head over to www.facebook.com

Since you do not have an account you will see this screen:

To sign up you will need a valid email address to verify your account. If you need an email address I suggest starting with a Yahoo Mail account. I recommend Gmail as well but you need another (recovery) email to create a Gmail account, so start with Yahoo.

Enter the rest of the information including a strong password (Longer than 6 characters and difficult for others to guess) and click "Sign Up".

Find Your Friends on Facebook

This step allows you to import your contacts as potential Facebook friends. This is an easy way to make connections with friends or acquaintances you have not spoken with in a while. It will also help you find more friends later. Enter your email to begin the import.

If you just created an email account you may not have any contacts. If so, "Skip this step".

Fill Out Your Information

Easy enough, just fill out your basic information. Current city is the most beneficial as it helps with recommendations, lists and interests.

Select Your Personal Interests

Staying in "touch" with some of your favorite musicians, television shows, or movie stars is another way Facebook will help you make connections later on. Of course it also helps marketing target you a little better. Facebook is always thinking ahead.

Click "Save & Continue" to move to the final step in creating your profile.

Add Your Very Best Profile Picture

This photo will show up next to your status updates so pick a photo that looks good as a small 40X40 pixel image. If you have a webcam you can even take a quick photo yourself. Otherwise, browse your computer and upload a photo.

Click "Save & Continue" to finish your profile.

Your Facebook Profile is Complete

Well, it is not complete but the account is set up. Read my next post on Protecting your Facebook profile.

Thanks for following along and don't forget to Be Mohr Social!
